  • Engineered floors are made up of multiple layers of wood that are glued together as one board. The top decorative layer is wood. The bottom layer is usually particle board or plywood. It is made with an interlocking tongue and groove system siimilar to standard strip flooring.

  • Layered flooring designed for stability with a thin hardwood layer on the surface.

It floated in the old swimming pool, strangely beautiful, like a giant jelly-fish, and although I detest litter I actually found it a wondrous thing, an unworldly creature!

Memories of childhood swimming
surface amongst the glittering reflections:
the wavy verticals of fencing,
the skewed squares of windows,
the white of changing cubicles of the past.

Something floats,
half-submerged, amoeboid,
gently pulsating in the ripples,
coelenterate.

It has shape, yet is formless,
possesses both beauty and ugliness.
Shades of green merge and swirl,
deepening as into oceanic depths.

Discarded, dumped, or wind-blown,
the polythene bag hangs in the still water,
ethereal, sculptured,
garbage.

This only took him about 15 minutes to pull up - one benefit to floating engineered floors! That's the cork underneath that is still usable.
